Crocheted baby blanket

One of my projects over the winter was crocheting a whole load of granny squares to put together into a blanket. The first square took ages as the flower is made from popcorn stitches (which I'd never done before and took ages to work out). I'm not sure whether to sew a cotton backing onto it to help it keep its shape...

I don't understand what you mean by "whether to sew a cotton backing onto it to help it keep its shape"? Do you mean the four corners curve up?

I was worried it would stretch and the edges would no longer be straight.

Do you think sewing a thin cotton underneath would help? It can also make it hole-less and the wool wouldn't touch the baby's skin too cos the wool is not baby wool.

And it might make it safer for little baby fingers...I think it would have to be used on top of something else though, anyway...
